Dark Stars featured on British Science Fiction Association Awards longlist

The Dark Stars anthology from Shacklebound Books is featured on the British Science Fiction Association Awards longlist. This anthology contains three of my original dark sci-fi drabbles.

  • A young woman asks her AI assistant to help her pick out a wedding dress in The Fitting Room.
  • A pair of astronauts wonder what to do when there’s An Angel in the Airlock.
  • When a traveler to Jupiter awakes from cryosleep too early, he realizes he should have read The Fine Print.

“Blame” included in Stoker Awards prelim ballot

My techno-horror story Blame has been included in the preliminary ballot for the Stoker Awards. This story was originally published by The Dread Machine and was selected as a 2022 Brave New Weird award winner (available to pre-order now in print or ebook).

Blame is a “found footage” story consisting of emails, Slack conversations, Reddit threads, phone transcripts, and more unusual artifacts like git commits, JIRA tickets, door entry logs … even a Walmart receipt.

Like many found footage tales, the story is ultimately pieced together based on incomplete information. Multiple reads of the story should reveal new hidden details that may change your interpretation of the ending.

You can read Blame for free here.

Content warning(s): misogyny, sexual assault (mentioned), suicide (mentioned)

“Blame” selected for the Brave New Weird shortlist

My techno-horror story Blame has been shortlisted for the upcoming Brave New Weird anthology by Tenebrous Press, a collection of the best new weird horror stories of 2022. With over 700 stories submitted—all of which have already been published—it’s an honor to be included in this shortlist with so many other incredible authors and stories. The final table of contents will be announced on December 1st.
