“From Below” published in the ParSec in Print anthology

My post-apocalyptic eco-horror From Below has been published in the Parsec In Print anthology by PS Publishing, debuting at Fantasycon in Birmingham on Friday. Originally published in ParSec #5, From Below was chosen to appear in print along with stories by Ramsey Campbell, Steve Rasnic Tem, and many others.

In the flooded remains of Old Manhattan, the wealthy stay dry and well-fed in their penthouses, while everyone else is left to fend for themselves against the unseen horrors lurking just below the surface.

Content warning: cannibalism (implied), gore, suicide

“Unarmed” published in The Best of MetaStellar Year Two

My dystopian political thriller Unarmed has been published in The Best of MetaStellar Year Two anthology.

It’s a story about a citizen fighting back against a cult-like authoritarian leader, using the only weapon she has at her disposal: herself.

Content warning: gore, self-mutilation, sexual violence (mentioned)

The amputation was the easy part.

“Set For Life” published in INVASION: The Dark Side of Technology

My dark sci-fi short story Set For Life has been published in INVASION: The Dark Side of Technology by Wicked Shadow Press.

The story is about a man’s first day on the job picking up bodies for Syntech and the disturbing secret about where they come from. It’s also the prequel to my novella Override, and takes place in the same universe as A Free Man and Coherence (coming soon from Amazing Stories.)

Set For Life originally appeared in Dark Matter Magazine 004, who did an amazing audio production of the story as well.

“One Last Step” published in Lockdown Horror #5

My sci-fi horror story One Last Step has been published in Lockdown Horror #5 by Black Hare Press. It’s a story about a little girl stalked by an unseen shadow-thing across a post-apocalyptic landscape.

“Will it hurt?” I watched my father roll the sewing needle between his fingers, its tip glowing orange-red in the heat of the flame. My eyes welled with tears.

“Just a little,” he replied.

The flickering candlelight sent eerie shapes dancing around the cluttered attic where we were hiding for the night. Outside, the screeching calls of the shadow-things rose and fell like whale songs made from rusted metal. They sounded close.

Three drabbles published in the Dark Stars anthology

Three of my sci-fi horror drabbles have been published in the Dark Stars anthology from Shacklebound Books.

  • A young woman asks her AI assistant to help her pick out a wedding dress in The Fitting Room.
  • A pair of astronauts wonder what to do when there’s An Angel in the Airlock.
  • When a traveler to Jupiter awakes from cryosleep too early, he realizes he should have read The Fine Print.

“Silly Jilly” published in the Strange Libations anthology

My story Silly Jilly has been published in Apex Magazine’s Strange Libations: An Anthology of Dark Cocktails, featuring a collection of stories told via drink recipes. Silly Jilly is a bitter cocktail with a sweet finish, made in memory of a little girl lost.

The anthology was created as a reward for Kickstarter backers, so it’s not available for purchase directly. However, you can purchase a copy as an add-on to the Robotic Ambitions Kickstarter, which I highly recommend backing.

“Breathtaking” published in the Monstorm anthology

My historical horror story Breathtaking has been published in the Monstorm anthology by Madness Heart Press. Proceeds from sales of the book will go to people affected by Hurricane Ian.

Set in 1930s Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, Breathtaking tells the story of a young girl and her brother who see a mysterious woman in white screaming outside their house during a dust storm.

“Banshee,” I whispered, mouthing the words as I read. “A spirit in the form of a wailing woman who appears to members of a family as a sign that …” I trailed off. I felt my stomach tighten. Icicles formed down the center of my spine. “That one of them is about to die.”
